He loves me

Have I told you my big brother loves me?

He's always saying nice things to cheer me up and make me feel better.

Like;

"Wake up darling!"

and

"Hello little man!"

and

"It's awright, don't cry!"

and

"Don't worried!"

He always likes to make sure I know that it's not his fault when I cry so he says things like this;

"It's awright! I'm not hurting you!"

And when I'm having my nappy changed, he stands on his little stool so he can reach me and he says, in a very sympathetic tone;

"I know. I know. I know!"

This isn't a bath!

Mum and Dad thought I was a bit whiffy today.

It was time for a bath.

Unfortunately, my big brother's baby bath was still stored in the garage.

And on inspection, Dad discovered it was a bit grotty and should probably be thrown out.

But rather than giving up on the bath idea, they decided to bath me in the bathroom sink.

After all, lots of babies have their baths in a sink.

But those babies must either be smaller than me or have bigger bathroom sinks.

Because I did not enjoy my sink bath.

My legs stuck up in the air and only half of me managed to get wet.

I think it's time to buy a new baby bath.

Records

Last night, I helped Mum and Dad set a new record.

They only got half an hour sleep!

I didn't say it was a good record to set.

But it was only my very first night at home, so everyone is willing to cut me some slack.

I started off in the bassinet in Mum and Dad's room, but after a couple of hours they realised that sharing a room with me probably wasn't going to be the best idea.

Especially after Noah turned up to sleep in the Big Bed.

So me and my little bassinet were relocated into my own room.

Mum and Dad are hoping we'll all get more sleep with me residing next door.

Welcome home

Today was an exciting day because I went home for the first time!

Dad and Noah came up to the hospital to help Mum pack up all our things. I had lots of lovely presents that needed to be carried down to the car.

And then it was time to carry me down to the car.

I'd never felt the outside air before, but it wasn't too cold so I didn't protest.

Mum was very careful when she strapped me into my car seat. She had no intention of pinching my little fingers the way she did with my big brother on his way home from hospital.

Having a big brother in the seat next to mine is going to be helpful. It was only a short trip home, but he pointed out a few landmarks and told me about his favourite song that we were listening to on the CD player.

That song is Hello Hurricane and I already know all about it, because I've been listening to it for the past nine months while I was on the 'inside'.

When we got home, I was given a tour of my new room and then I just slept. All day long!

Funny one

I don't have a proper belly button yet.

What I do have is a stump of dead skin, held in place by a big yellow clamp.

Noah calls it my 'funny one' and he likes to point it out to everyone I meet.

"Look!" he'll say, pulling up my nightie, "She's got a funny one!"

Today he and Dad were on hand for my bath and final inspection by the midwife.

Noah mentioned my 'funny one' to the midwife.

But then she got some scissors and chopped off the yellow clamp.

I cried.

Noah just stood over me and patted my head.

"Don't worried" he said. "We'll put it back on soon".

Passing the test

The life of a brand new baby isn't all cuddles, sleep and feeds.

I found that out the hard way today.

First, a nurse came to give me a routine hearing test, which involved sticking funny little sensors all over my head.

I passed the test!

Next another nurse came to give me a vaccination and give me a heal prick test.

I didn't like them one little bit.

Neither did Mum.

But it was all over in a flash and I a quick feed and a cuddle was all it took to cheer me up again.

Day One

According to the hospital, this is my first day.

Yesterday, was Day Zero so today is my first official full day in the world.

And I made the most of it...keeping Mum up for most of last night.

When Dad arrived after dropping Noah off at Kindy, Mum told him she wasn't sure if she'd actually slept at all the night before.

But I was in fine form for my very first bath. I loved it!

Later in the afternoon, my Grandma and Grandad Gunders arrived, along with my Aunty Lyndall. And then my other Grandma came and dropped off Noah.

That night I also met some of Mum's friends.

It was a day full of cuddles!

Arrival

Hello world!

I officially arrived at 3:46 this afternoon, all covered in white stuff and sporting blue hands and feet. Well, it was a cold day!

Mum tells me it all happened pretty quickly, but let's go back to the start of the day.

Mum and dad and Noah got up early, and grandma came to our house to look after Noah while the others went to the hospital.

Mum was induced and the waiting game began.

The midwives suggested walking might help to bring on labour.

So Mum and Dad walked and walked, around the hospital, again and again.

They almost decided to walk home! But decided not to.

Labour finally kicked in at one o'clock in the afternoon and Mum hung out in the bath and the shower the whole time.

Dad got a bit bored and, since Mum was pretty comfortable and didn't need his help, he had a little snooze in a comfy recliner.

The action all began at 3:15, when Mum told the midwife that a) she needed gas and b) it was time to push.

The midwife got a fright and said she wasn't ready. But I wasn't waiting for anyone!

The doctor was called and he ran across the road from his surgery, arriving just in time.

And I made my appearance at 3:46!

"Well, she's bigger than Noah!" the doctor said.

And I was. At 3.97kg, I was a whole kilogram bigger!

I was quite cold so, after Mum had had a cuddle and I'd endured the business of being weighed and measured, Dad wrapped me all up and we had a long cuddle until it was time to head back to our room.

Within a couple of hours of being born, I was feeding well and was warmed up in my little Bonds Wondersuit...which proved too little, as it happens!

The Paediatrician gave me his tick of approval and soon after that, Grandma and Grandad and Noah arrived to give me their tick of approval.

It was a good first day.
